Most people think you should sit on slides and go down feet first.
It’s a socially acceptable, established rule.
But do you know you don’t have to?
You can ski in your socks if you want to.
Kinda fun.
I’ve been playing with the idea that there’s no such thing as rules.
Maybe I don’t have to make dinner.
Maybe I can invent a business from my home office with a laptop.
Maybe I can opt out of the PTA.
Maybe I can pay for more than I took just because I wanna help someone out.
Maybe i don’t have to do anything if my husband is disappointed.
I’ll love him.
And support him.
But still have him drive carpool while I finish outlining my webinar.
For a long time, the rule in my brain was, “Everyone first, mama last.”
Seemed right.
Noble even.
But it wasn’t.
I was resentful and empty and way less able to serve those around me.
So I’m dropping that rule.
Now it’s “mama gets a turn”.
Things still get done. Love is still spread, but I enjoy my life more when I care for me first.
I’m more creative. More fun. Like ski socks on a slippery slide.
What rule are you living by that maybe isn’t a rule after all?
Drop it, mama.
It’s more fun over here.
